This Privacy Policy describes how the Starting Words iOS and iPadOS app (“Starting Words,” “the App,” “we,” or “us”) handles information. Starting Words is a spelling practice app designed to help anyone that wants to learn to spell.
This page is a plain-language privacy policy for App Store use. It is not legal advice.
Information We Do Not Collect
- Starting Words does not require an account or sign-in.
- We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number, photos, or other personal contact details.
- We do not sell personal information.
- We do not use the Advertising Identifier (IDFA) for tracking.
- We do not use third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDKs other than Kickstart Exchange as described below.
Information Stored on Your Device
Starting Words stores learning progress and preferences on your device so the App can work offline. This may include:
- Word progress, stars, and practice history
- Daily challenge status and streak information
- Unlocked stickers and achievements
- App settings (for example, reminders or lock preferences)
- One-time tip or prompt flags (for example, whether a rating or silent-mode tip has already been shown)
This information stays on the device. Starting Words does not operate its own server that receives or stores this progress data.
You can remove locally stored data by deleting the App from the device, or by using reset options available in Settings within the App (where provided).
Apple Services
Starting Words may occasionally ask whether you enjoy the App and, if you choose Yes, may show Apple’s standard App Store rating prompt. That prompt is provided by Apple through StoreKit. Apple’s terms and privacy practices apply to App Store review features.
Kickstart Exchange (Cross-Promotion)
Starting Words uses Kickstart Exchange, a cross-promotion service for independent Apple platform apps. A banner advert may appear on the App’s main (Home) screen to show other apps.
Kickstart Exchange is designed to match apps, not people. It does not track users or devices or build behavioral profiles of people who use Starting Words.
In connection with Kickstart Exchange, the App may process app-level information such as an API key, bundle identifier, platform, app and build versions, SDK version, App Store storefront country, and development/test mode when applicable. In shipping builds, the Kickstart Exchange SDK may briefly send a locally verified Apple-signed App Transaction so Kickstart Exchange can confirm a real install for the registered app. According to Kickstart Exchange, that signed information is processed only temporarily for verification and is not retained to identify a specific person or device.
Kickstart Exchange may record app-level advertising activity such as impressions and clicks. These records are not associated with a specific person or device identity for Starting Words users.
For App Store privacy disclosures related to Kickstart Exchange, Starting Words may declare Usage Data: Product Interaction and Usage Data: Advertising Data. These data types are not linked to identity and are not used for tracking.

Your Privacy
Starting Words is intended for any learner or family. We do not knowingly collect personal information. Progress and settings remain on the device. Kickstart Exchange does not build user or device behavioral profiles as described in their privacy notice.
Your Choices
- Continue using Starting Words with progress stored only on the device
- Use in-app Settings resets (where available) to clear selected progress or related data
- Delete the App to remove its local data from the device
- Contact us through the website below with privacy questions

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. The current version will be posted at this same Blogger page URL.
